Separate Public Special Education Programs

Applications Update

Please note updated important information related to separate public special education programs under Public Act 103-0644.

Applications approved for the 2025-26 school year? Yes = Two-year approval granted for school years 2025-26 and 2026-27 > Next application due March 15, 2027, and every two years thereafter. No = Applications for the 2026-27 school year due Jan. 23, 2026 > If approved, two-year approval granted for school years 2026-27 and 2027-28 > Next application due March 15, 2028, and every two years thereafter > Outside of the 2026-27 school year, new applications are due March 15 of each year.

The application is available on ISBE's Special Education webpage, under the Forms, Links and Resources accordion menu.
All new programs or facilities seeking qualification for reimbursement need to apply by submitting a completed application to publicsped@isbe.net. Outside of the 2026-27 school year, applications are due March 15 of each year.
