Are you a K-12 educator looking for support to implement the Illinois Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards? Then this professional learning opportunity is just for you!
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is excited to continue a partnership with the Office of the Chancellor’s PreK-12 Initiatives in the College of Education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and TEACH Academy to provide a professional learning series and resources to K-12 teachers and leaders across the state. The series is titled “The Magnitude of Us: Creating and Sustaining Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading.”
This asynchronous learning series will guide participating educators through activities that:
- Prepare K-12 educators to implement the Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards as outlined by ISBE.
- Share curricular and pedagogical resources that support culturally responsive teaching and leading.
-
Offer the un/HUSH Framework and resources from Dr. Marlee Bunch’s book “The Magnitude of Us,” which serve as a guide to help teachers and leaders implement and assess curricula, texts, and pedagogical practices. The book is not required for the learning series, but we recommend getting the book as a resource while completing the modules. We invite you to visit the Dr. Marlee Bunch website for more information.
This series features five modules. (Four are required, with one optional module.) The modules are self-paced, allowing busy teachers and leaders to complete the learning based on their schedule. All modules should be completed by the due date indicated when you register. Each module should take between 5-8 hours to complete.
Each participant who completes all the online coursework and the post-module feedback survey will receive 42 professional development hours (PDH) if the required 1-4 modules are completed, or 50 PDH if all five modules (including the optional one) are completed.
Please note that participation is capped at 100 educators. Early registration is strongly encouraged to secure your spot. Please reach out to Dr. Bunch or the University of Illinois Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading team at culturallyresponsive@education.illinois.edu if you have questions.
